Softbank starts push on Vodafone KK re-brand

Softbank Corp has broken its silence over the forthcoming re-brand of its recently acquired mobile unit Vodafone KK, by delivering no less than a dozen press releases ahead of the official launch on 1 October. Softbank plans to introduce 13 new handsets and a raft of updated service offerings to support the launch. It has also released details on new key personnel who have joined the company, including Ted Matsumoto, the long-time head of Qualcomm Japan. On the network front, Softbank has announced that it has upgraded its network in the greater Tokyo area with HSDPA technology, which will be available from 1 October for users buying its new HTC – X01HT smartphone. The company has also announced the introduction of new applications and services such as Yahoo Mobile Search, ‘Hot Talk’ instant messenger, a ‘Live Monitor’ service, and a ‘3D Town’ event guide map.
