Etisalat unblocks websites

29 Sep 2006

United Arab Emirates telecoms giant Etisalat has unblocked the popular websites YouTube.com, MySpace.com and Hi5.com in response to protests from subscribers to its Al Shamil service. A spokesman said: ‘[this] has been done as part of an ongoing process…for those websites for which we get frequent unblock request…and when the offending content…is removed.’ Websites are blocked by the telco when they are deemed to offend the moral, religious and cultural values of the UAE.
