Omantel signs USD11.6 million deal

State-controlled incumbent telco Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel) has signed a deal worth OMR4.466 million (USD11.6 million) with Oman Computer Services and France’s Capgemini Telecom to implement an operation and support system. The 14-month project will enhance efficiency, improve quality of service and reduce breakdowns, Omantel chairman Saud bin Nasser Al Shikaili said. Omantel is the sole operator of wireline services in the Sultanate, and according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database had around 265,000 lines in service at the end of 2005.
