Taiwan Mobile has awarded Nokia a contract to expand its W-CDMA networks and upgrade them with 3.5G technology. Having supplied the telco’s existing 3G infrastructure, Nokia will now deliver a further 3,000 base stations. It will also upgrade the network software with HSDPA to boost data transmission speeds on the next-generation network. Nokia says it has supplied 63 W-CDMA 3G networks worldwide to date. Taiwan Mobile is the country’s second largest cellular operator, with 6.1 million subscribers.
