Brazilian mobile network operator TIM Participações plans to launch a converged fixed-mobile service, effectively transforming a user’s mobile phone into a fixed line service, writes BNamericas citing local newspaper Gazeta Mercantil. The new product, called TIM Casa, allows customers to use their mobile phones to make low cost calls from their homes at a monthly rate cheaper than for fixed wire connections. The cellco’s marketing director Marco Lopes said: ‘Consumers know that a mobile-to-mobile call is cheaper than a fixed-to-mobile call. Now they will discover that also that a mobile-to-fixed call will cost less than a fixed-to-fixed call when calling from a predetermined geographical base.’
