No advisers appointed for TIM sale - yet

26 Sep 2006

Telecom Italia has confirmed to Italy’s stock market watchdog that it intends to split its wireline and wireless businesses, although it says it has made no moves to appoint advisers for a possible sale of its mobile division TIM. A Telecom Italia statement claims that the restructuring is aimed at streamlining the company so it can respond more quickly to the ever-changing competitive environment. Telecom Italia will focus on the provision of media content over broadband internet lines, while TIM will operate as a separate entity. A group of private equity groups have been linked with a buyout of TIM if it does come up for sale.
