Ministry seeks new regulation of interconnection

25 Sep 2006

The Ministry of Post and Telematics (MPT) has asked the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) to draw up new regulations governing interconnection agreements, after EVN Telecom complained that network jams across 17 provinces were losing it customers. Current regulations stipulate the signing of interconnection agreements between networks every May, but do not provide sanctions should one network not keep its half of the bargain. The MPT wants to ensure networks are available to each other on demand. EVN Telecom (formerly VP Telecom) operates wireless telephony, long-distance and mobile services across Vietnam under the brands E-Com, E-Phone and E-Mobile.
