Lebanon telecoms liberalisation ‘still on track’

25 Sep 2006

The privatisation of Lebanon’s telecommunications sector will proceed according to the reform plan proposed during former prime minister Omar Karami’s administration, according to the Daily Star quoting the country’s telecoms minister Marwan Hamade. The minister added that in addition to selling off its telecoms assets, the government will implement the long-awaited Law 431 to create Liban Telecom as a standalone telco. Hamade has submitted a proposal to Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, which is expected to go to cabinet for approval soon.
