Digicel to acquire Digicel

Caribbean cellco Digicel is to acquire the El Salvadorian concern Digicel Holdings Limited (DHL), an entirely separate company which operates a GSM network in the country. DHL also holds a GSM concession in neighbouring Guatemala, which it won in March 2003, but to date has not launched any services there. The deal, which should close soon, will continue the expansion of Jamaica-based Digicel’s Latin American presence. The company is expecting to be granted a license to operate in Guyana within days.
