TI in the news again

21 Sep 2006

As if the current controversy surrounding its restructuring plans was not enough, Telecom Italia has hit the headlines again, this time in relation to an investigation into allegations of phone tapping. 20 people, including former TI executives, tax officials and members of Italy’s Carabinieri police force, have been arrested as part of a probe by prosecutors. The investigation, which was launched several months ago, is studying whether TI officials colluded with a private detective agency to gather personal phone and bank data about its customers. Part of the probe, reports the Wall Street Journal, centres on the phone records of a number of Italian politicians, including the granddaughter of Benito Mussolini.
