Xfera and Vodafone resurrect national roaming agreement

19 Sep 2006

Xfera Móviles, the Spanish 3G start-up recently taken over by TeliaSonera, has confirmed that it has resurrected an agreement to roam over the 2G network of mobile rival Vodafone Spain. The deal, first agreed in 2001, provides for full national roaming on Vodafone’s Spanish GSM-based network and is key to Xfera’s plans to launch commercial mobile services before the end of the year. The cellco will offer nationwide coverage based on the combination of roaming and use of its own 3G-network, currently being rolled-out to 25% of the population as required by its licence requirements by year-end.
