18 Sep 2006

Telecom Namibia has signed a contract with Chinese technology vendor Huawei to roll out an ASDL network by the end of this year. Under the contract Huawei is supplying equipment for the deployment of 7,000 ADSL ports at 120 locations over the next three months. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Telecom plans to initially launch broadband internet services for residential and business users in the capital Windhoek, ahead of a national rollout that will see the extension of its ADSL footprint to other regional centres by December.
