US-based VoIP telephony provider PingPong Telecom has purchased Brazilian IP telephony provider Vonar, according to BNamericas, citing PingPong Telecom. The deal, the first by the US company in South America, gives it a licence to build up a presence in the region. São Paulo-based Vonar provides VoIP service for residential users and small and medium-sized businesses, while PingPong Telecom provides international and domestic termination for wholesale and retail carriers, call centres, corporations, pre-paid cards and IP phone providers.
