UPC Slovakia launches triple-play

14 Sep 2006

Slovakia’s largest cableco UPC Slovakia, owned by US-based Liberty Global, has launched VoIP telephony services, adding to its existing portfolio of cable TV and broadband internet services. Its triple-play offering is initially only available in the capital, Bratislava. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, UPC launched its ‘chello’ broadband service in Bratislava via both cable and satellite in April 2003, a number of months before the country’s incumbent fixed line operator Slovak Telecom had rolled out a DSL service of its own. UPC’s cable TV network covered 433,000 Slovak households at the end of June 2006, 230,000 of which were able to receive broadband services.
