DoCoMo buys into fuel cell technology

14 Sep 2006

Japan’s leading mobile operator by subscribers NTT DoCoMo is buying a 36.5% stake in Aquafairy Co, a company which is developing fuel cell technology for the industry. DoCoMo hopes the investment will result in it being able to sell handsets with longer-lasting hydrogen-powered batteries. The pair are working together on the development of a micro fuel cell recharger for the operator’s latest range of handsets. The cellco said it is buying the stake through newly issued shares, and compliments a similar agreement DoCoMo has with electronics firm Fujitsu Ltd.
