Batelco gets clearance for budget DSL package

14 Sep 2006

Bahrain’s Batelco has been given permission by the Telecoms Regulatory Authority (TRA) to market a low-end broadband internet access package offering a 256kbps DSL connection and a 2GB monthly download threshold for BHD10 (USD26.7) per month. The telco says the new offer, available from 10 October, will help boost the country’s high speed internet penetration rate. It previously launched the package in June but was ordered by the TRA to take it off the market for ‘failing to meet its obligations under the Telecommunications Law and its licence.’ Batelco has announced plans to introduce an entry level broadband package priced at BHD5 (USD13.35) per month.
