We’ll spend our wad: TelstraClear

Telstra of Australia says its New Zealand subsidiary TelstraClear would be prepared to invest up to NZD1 billion (USD642 million) over the next few years if dominant operator Telecom was pushed to open up its fixed line networks to rivals. According to Bloomberg, TelstraClear executives were outlining their planned investments in front of a parliamentary committee which is investigating ways of breaking Telecom’s stranglehold of the local loop. Around half of TelstraClear’s planned spend would go towards building out a nationwide 3G mobile network.
