Softbank to offer broadband mobile service by 2008

Japanese internet and communications conglomerate Softbank Corp has revealed plans to offer broadband internet access via mobile phones by 2008, according to local newspaper, the Mainichi Shimbun. Softbank will use MediaFlo technology developed by US mobile phone chip developer Qualcomm to offer transmission speeds at more than ten times those of current 3G alternatives, and will provide content from its internet portal site unit Yahoo Japan Corp.
