Ofcom issues new mobile termination proposals

UK regulator Ofcom has issued new proposals concerning controls on wholesale mobile voice call termination charges to come into effect when the current regulation expires in March 2007. Ofcom proposes the average termination charges of Vodafone, O2, T-Mobile and Orange should be reduced to approximately GBP0.053 (USD0.099) per minute across 2G and 3G networks by March 2011, whilst the average termination charge of Hutchison 3G UK should be reduced to approximately GBP0.06 p/m. Ofcom has also announced plans to launch an 18-month review of the market for wholesale SMS termination.
