Digicel expects licence confirmation by end of month

Jamaica-based wireless group Digicel says it expects to clear the final hurdle in its bid for a GSM concession in Guyana within two weeks, and will then move ahead with network rollout plans. Digicel announced last month that President Bharrat Jagdeo had given the go ahead for it to be awarded a concession, but according to the country’s telecoms legislation the process is subject to public consultation. ‘We expect the process to conclude by 28 September,’ Maureen Rabbitt, Digicel’s head of corporate communications said.
