CSL and Nokia roll out HSDPA

6 Sep 2006

CSL New World Mobility, Hong Kong’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, announced today that Nokia has supplied it with a High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) solution, enabling it to offer broadband-speed mobile data services. CSL aims to gradually enhance its HSDPA data rate to 3.6Mbps as supporting devices become available. The pair tested the 3.5G technology in February 2006. Nokia has partnered the former Hong Kong CSL since 1991, providing GSM, GPRS, EDGE and W-CDMA infrastructure. In November 2005 Hong Kong CSL and New World Mobility agreed to merge, creating an operator with around 2.5 million subscribers.
