Movistar’s pre-paid users upgrade to EV-DO

Venezuelan mobile operator Movistar has added CDMA2000 1xEV-DO 3G data applications to its range of pre-paid services. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Movistar, wholly owned by Telefónica Móviles, launched commercial EV-DO services in 26 of Venezuela’s biggest cities in December 2005, and had signed up 91,000 3G users by the end of March 2006. According to a company statement, by the end of August it had deployed 360 of the 400 EV-DO cell sites it expects to have installed by October.
