Lanka Bell in submarine cable tie-up with FLAG Telecom

Sri Lankan wireless in the local loop (WiLL) network operator Lanka Bell is in talks with FLAG Telecom, a subsidiary of India’s Reliance Group, to lay an undersea cable linking the two countries. According to local reports, the USD25 million deal is due to be inked shortly, with the cable also extended from Sri Lanka to the Maldives. ‘Once finalised the project will take about a year to finish,’ Lanka Bell’s Executive Director Prasad Samarasinghe told LBO on Friday.
