4 Sep 2006

Japanese mobile network operator KDDI Corp says it is hoping to wrest market share from iPod in the local mobile-music segment with the release of a dozen handsets with advanced audio player capability. Seven firms have been contracted to supply the new models, namely Casio, Hitachi, Kyocera, Sanyo, Sharp, Sony Ericsson and Toshiba. iPod currently commands more than 50% of the Japanese mobile-music industry.
