SFR set to buy Tele2 France's fixed line operations?

31 Aug 2006

According to reports emanating from France, SFR is in exclusive talks with Tele2 over the acquisition of the Swedish telco’s fixed line operations in France. A source close to the talks has revealed that the assets under discussion are Tele2’s ADSL broadband and local telephony businesses but not its wireless operations. French financial publication Challenges suggests that the deal could be worth EUR320 million, though this has yet to be confirmed. SFR Chief Executive Frank Esser indicated as far back as May that the company wants to launch wireline services by the end of 2006.
