Xfera asks for termination fee cut; plans launch in seven cities in December

30 Aug 2006

Xfera, the Spanish 3G start-up recently taken over by TeliaSonera, will launch mobile services in seven Spanish cities in December, according to local paper Cinco Dias. Xfera Chief Executive Johan Andsjo reportedly told the paper that the company had asked regulator, Telecommunications Market Commission (CMT), for a 40%-60% discount on termination fees to allow it to make up ground on its more established rivals. He added that TeliaSonera is currently deciding whether to keep the Xfera name, rebrand the company as TeliaSonera or give it a new, as yet undecided, name.
