29 Aug 2006

Algeria’s national rail operator has awarded Nortel a contract for the rollout of a GSM for Railways (GSM-R) network. SNTF wants to install Africa’s first network based on GSM-R, which enables train drivers, station staff and other rail employees to communicate with each other. Nortel says it has already undertaken GSM-R deployments for RFF in France, Network Rail in the UK and Deutsche Bahn in Germany.
