In the six months ending 30 June 2006, China Unicom reported a 20.2% rise in net profit to CNY2.8 billion (USD352 million). Revenues climbed 8.2% to CNY46.77 billion, of which its GSM operation generated CNY29.36 billion, CDMA CNY13.74 billion and long-distance, internet and data CNY1.64 billion. EBITDA for the first half rose 10.7% to CNY15.49 billion, while EBITDA margin rose 0.7 percentage points to 33.1. At the end of June Unicom had a subscriber base of 135.087 million, an increase of 7.2 million on the start of the year, giving it a market share of 32.1%. GSM subscribers accounted for 100.552 million of the total, with the net addition of 5.48 million in the six month period. The average monthly MoU per GSM subscriber was 230.7 minutes, representing an increase of 35.7 minutes on the first half of 2005. The CDMA subscriber base fared less well with 34.53 million users at the end of June, with the net addition of just 1.8 million customers. Average MoU fell by eight minutes to 280.8 minutes, while ARPU decreased by CNY10 to CNY78.1.
