DoCoMo to launch HSDPA by end-August

Japanese mobile operator NTT DoCoMo will launch its new High Speed Download Packet Access (HSDPA) service on 31 August, to coincide with the planned launch of its first HSDPA-compatible handset, the 3G FOMA N902iX High-Speed – made by NEC. At launch the new network will cover central Tokyo, and all major cities will be covered by the end of October. DoCoMo says it plans to up HSDPA coverage to 70% of the population by 31 March 2007, rising to 90% a year later.
