Cellcos object to chile.com MVNO request

22 Aug 2006

Chilean mobile operators Claro, Entel PCS and Movistar Chile have lodged an official complaint with telecoms regulator Subtel regarding internet service and content provider chile.com’s application for a licence to operate as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), reports BNamericas citing local newspaper Diario Financiero. Since the second half of 2005, chile.com has been requesting a concession from Subtel but opposition from operators has delayed the process. Subtel has now set 11 September as the new deadline for Chile.com to submit its arguments against mobile operators’ complaints. The three cellcos argue that chile.com’s plan would be technically impossible given that it has not forged an alliance with any of them and has no plans to invest in infrastructure.
