French mobile operator Bouygues Télécom has selected Nortel to supply equipment for its national UMTS/HSDPA mobile network. The high speed network is scheduled to go live in early 2007. Nortel has been awarded a five-year deal under which it will roll out infrastructure in four out of six of Bouygues’ operational regions in France, including the Western, South Western, Northeastern and Mediterranean regions. Nortel is currently a key supplier of the cellco’s EDGE and GPRS networks. Its HSDPA solution can provide connectivity at speeds up to 7.2Mbps.
