No new licences in 2006

21 Aug 2006

Saudi Arabia’s telecoms regulator, the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC), says it will not be offering any new fixed line or mobile licences in 2006 according to a Reuters report. The Commission had announced in May that it was considering offering new concessions by the end of this year. The country’s wireline sector is currently a monopoly for Saudi Telecom Company (STC), while the mobile market is shared between STC and Mobily. There was immediate interest in the concessions when the CITC made its announcement in May; companies thought to be interested in entering the fast-growing Saudi market include Orascom.
