ComReg mulling plans to cap narrowband prices

21 Aug 2006

The Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) in Ireland is mulling plans to introduce a price cap on the amount eircom can charge in the fixed line market for narrowband services. The regulator’s proposal follows a review of the sector which has confirmed the incumbent still wields significant market power in the copper wire and ISDN services markets, writes Telecompaper. As a result, ComReg is considering several new regulations, including requirements on eircom to provide carrier access, carrier pre-select and wholesale line rental. Details on a public consultation on the proposed retail price cap and access will be announced shortly.
