Vimpelcom wins Far East appeal

15 Aug 2006

A Moscow court has ruled that the country’s second largest cellular operator, Vimpelcom, should be granted a licence allowing it to offer services in Russia’s Far East Federal District, Prime Tass reports. Vimpelcom had previously seen its application for frequencies in the region turned down by the Federal Service for Communications Oversight, but it appealed to the arbitration court. The cellco currently has concessions covering just four of the Far East District’s 13 regions, while both its main competitors – MTS and MegaFon – hold licences for the whole Far East.
