NT launches CDMA mobile network

Nepal Telecom (NT) will begin accepting applications for its pre-pay CDMA network, covering the Kathmandu Valley, according to Som Nath Bhattarai, manager of Kathmandu Regional Directorate of NT. The operator has been running the CDMA network since early this year, but only for fixed wireless services. According to UK-based group The Mobile World, NT is estimated to have garnered 341,000 subscribers by the end of March 2006, compared with new market entrant Spice Telecom which has about 106,000 subscribers, having only commenced operations in the middle of 2005.
