Swedish vendor Ericsson will provide USD43 million to finance a project to install a GSM network overlay for Ecuador’s smallest mobile operator Telecsa (Alegro), whilst the cellco’s state-run parent Andinatel will invest a further USD60 million, reports BNamericas quoting local daily El Comercio. Alegro said earlier it expects the new GSM network to cost a total of USD300 million. Ericsson previously installed Alegro’s CDMA2000 1x network, launched in 2003.
