Qatar Telecom (Q-Tel) will install more than 60 repeater stations in the Doha area before the start of the Asian Games in December, in a bid to improve weak mobile network reception in some localities, reports local news service The Peninsula. Q-Tel’s GSM/UMTS network capacity will also be expanded from 1.2 million users to 1.4 million this year, according to company spokesperson Sheikh Fahad bin Jassim Al Thani. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Q-Tel had 811,000 mobile subscribers at the end of June 2006.
