MTS to increase tariffs

8 Aug 2006

MTS has reversed its decision to introduce connection fees for mobile calls and will instead increase its tariffs for the first minute of all calls on its networks. The price hike is being introduced to recoup revenues lost following the abolition of the calling party pays (CPP) system on 1 July. MTS’ main rivals in the Russian cellular market have already introduced their own price rises; Prime Tass reports that MegaFon is due to introduce a connection fee on its calls this month, while Vimpelcom has brought in a charge for any call that lasts longer than three seconds.
