Eight pre-qualify in SNO tender

8 Aug 2006

Kenya’s telecoms regulator says eight companies have pre-qualified as bidders for the country’s second national operator (SNO). The Communications Commission of Kenya says five of 13 companies which showed an interest in bidding have been excluded from the tender process. The remaining parties will now be invited to buy tender documents, with the outcome of the auction likely to be known at the end of this year, according to a report from Nairobi newspaper the East African Standard. The SNO is expected to launch its first services in mid-2007 and will compete with incumbent operator Telkom Kenya.
