Telsur first half earnings rise 8.8%

7 Aug 2006

Chilean telco Telefónica del Sur (Telsur) recorded a net profit of CLP4.1 billion (USD7.56 million) for the first six months of 2006, up 8.8% compared to CLP3.77 billion recorded in the same period of 2005, writes BNamericas. The company attributed part of the growth to the launching of a fixed mobile service, which achieved its 10,000 sales target forecast set for September a full quarter early. Revenues for the period increased 0.11% to CLP27.5billion; the group’s internet unit increased turnover by 14.3%, largely due to growth in ADSL connections, generating CLP4.67 billion. Telsur ended June with 190,690 telephony clients, 44,769 ADSL customers and 10,650 fixed wireless users.
