Vodafone to launch Apple-friendly HSDPA modem

2 Aug 2006

Mobile operator Vodafone UK has revealed plans to launch a new modem allowing Apple computer users to utilise its newly launched HSDPA network at connection speeds of around 1.4Mbps/384kbps (down/upload). The Vodafone Mobile Connect USB Modem will launch in autumn and connects to computers and laptops via a standard USB cable, making it compatible with Apple computers as well as standard PCs; Vodafone’s current laptop datacards can only be used with PCs. So far Vodafone’s networks in Greater London (within the M25), Glasgow, Sheffield, Greater Manchester and Tyneside have been upgraded to HSDPA, with a nationwide rollout covering Vodafone’s entire W-CDMA footprint, equal to around 75% of the population, scheduled for completion by summer 2007.
