Telkom profits up 53% in first half

1 Aug 2006

Indonesia’s dominant telecoms company PT Telkom has reported net profits of IDR5.82 trillion (USD640.2 million) for the first half of 2006, a 53% rise from IDR3.80 trillion in the year-earlier period. Consolidated revenue increased 24% to IDR24 trillion, up from IDR19.38 trillion a year ago. The company attributed the strong performance to increased revenues from its cellular and internet divisions. The group’s 65%-owned mobile arm PT Telkomsel, reported a 47% rise in 1H revenues to IDR9.44 trillion from IDR6.41 trillion, due to an increase in its subscriber base, although it stopped short of providing subscriber figures (Telkomsel had an estimated base of 30.5 million in July). Meanwhile, revenue from Telkom’s internet and multimedia services division rose 32% to IDR4.1 trillion, up from IDR3.1 trillion previously, although sales from fixed line services dipped from IDR5.47 trillion to IDR5.34 trillion.
