Argentine-Bolivian telephony cooperatives association, Ucoarbo, has revealed plans to invest some USD8 million to deploy a 1,300km fibre-optic backbone linking San Salvador de Jujuy in Argentina with the Bolivian department of Oruro, writes BNamericas citing Argentine newspaper El Cronista. The cable will connect Argentina’s Quiaca cooperative with the network of Telecom Argentina and the Jujuy province’s capital city San Salvador, 300km north; Quiaca will sell bandwidth to the other Argentine cooperatives. In Bolivia, Cooperativa de Villazón will resell bandwidth to its fellow domestic cooperatives.
