BeST plots network expansion

State-owned cellco Belarus Telecommunications Network (BeST) has revealed that it will spend around USD47 million on network development during the next two years. Deputy General Director Sergei Poblaguyev told reporters that BeST plans to install 120 base stations along the country’s key motorways in 2007, and that the funds will come from loans received in 2005 from several Chinese banks worth USD234 million. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, BeST launched services in Minsk on 11 December 2005 and had approximately 7,000 subscribers at the end of March 2006, translating into a 0.15% market share.
