UK-based mobile group Vodafone reported 9.5% growth in its worldwide subscriber base in its fiscal first quarter, boosted by the addition of 11.7 million subscribers through acquisitions in a number of markets, most notably Turkey. Vodafone added a total of 16.2 million customers in the three months to the end of June, taking the overall number to 186.8 million, the company said a statement. The group completed the acquisition of Turkey’s Telsim for USD4.55 billion in May as part of plans to expand into markets where penetration is low. Vodafone reiterated its guidance for the current year and said it expected organic customer growth to be in the 5% to 6% in the twelve months ending June 2007. It will release its full key performance indicators later today.
