Nextel rolls out network to Porto Alegre

The Brazilian arm of digital trunking provider Nextel says it has extended its network to cover Porto Alegre, completing its mobile phone network in the country’s southern region. According to BNamericas, the municipalities of Alvorada, Cachoeirinha, Canoas, Eldorado do Sul and Esteio will also be served by the extension.

According to TeleGeography’s Globalcomms database, Nextel Brasil offers a range of wireless services for business customers over its iDEN network, including push-to-talk services. By the end of March 2006 it had attracted more than 693,000 subscribers in its five operating regions of São Paolo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, Goiania/Anapolis and Curitiba/Belo Horizonte.
