Caribbean wireless operator Digicel has announced the launch of its GSM network on the Netherlands Antilles island of Bonaire. The cellco claims the new network is a milestone for the islands of Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao (the so-called ‘ABC Islands’), which are now connected by a seamless GSM network for the first time. Digicel acquired a presence on Bonaire in April 2006 when it bought a majority shareholding in Antilliano Por. The purchase complements its existing operations in Aruba, launched in 2002, and in Curacao, where it bought Curacao Telecom in March 2005.
