The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has indefinitely postponed its tender for the country’s first 2.3HGz WiMAX wireless broadband licence, under order from the Ministry of Communications (MoC). At least three companies – DiGi Telecommunications, Redtone International and NasionCom Holdings – had publicly expressed their interest in applying for a concession in the tender, which was originally due to close today. Communications Minister Lim Keng Yaik told reporters that the tender had been cancelled because the terms of the bidding, set by the MCMC, were not in line with the MoC’s own licensing regulations, most notably in terms of the roll out of infrastructure. Lim Keng Yaik did not say when the tender would be restarted.
