Maxis outlines 3G expansion plans

Maxis CEO Datuk Jamaludin Ibrahim has revealed that the Malaysian cellco plans to spend between MYR400 million and MYR600 million (USD110 million and USD165 million) on its 3G network in 2006. The bulk of the money will be used to expand the reach of the network, particularly in Klang Valley where 100% coverage is expected by the end of the year, up from the current level of 80%. The CEO added that at the end of the second quarter Maxis had approximately 110,000 3G subscribers, with as many as 40,000 of those being added in June.
