Guinea-Bissau signs cooperation pact with Anatel to help improve telecoms

14 Jul 2006

The Guinea-Bissau Communications Institute (ICGB) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Brazilian telecoms regulator Anatel, in an effort to improve the quality of telecoms services in Guinea-Bissau. The MoU will make it possible for the two countries to cooperate on such measures as regulatory harmonisation and the drawing up and setting up of pre-agreed standards to be reached by the smaller country’s telecoms operators. In addition, it will make it possible for Guinea-Bissau to access details on tariffs and prices charged by operators and their compliance with contractual rules, and the drawing up of targets for quality and services. The MoU, the 25th signed by Anatel, also makes provision for administrative support on matters such as budget management, finances, IT and infrastructure.
